Super Shop Compressor!

I bought this for my farm shop to do everything from cleaning off equipment with air blowers to operating a 1" IR impact wrench to remove axle nuts on my dump truck and farm tractors. It is quiet running, has a nice low tone in my shop, pumps quickly and shuts off. It is well made, finished nice and other than painting the air piping I installed it needs nothing. Make sure you order the synthetic oil/filter kit. It will keep your compressor humming a long time.

I have owned this compressor for about two weeks so far so I can only comment on setup and limited use, as well as voltage requirements that prospective owners should know about before purchasing any air compressor. I installed it at my place of business and quickly realized that the motor is wired for 230 volts, but my service supplies 208 volts. I emailed Campbell Hausfeld and they replied within a week,telling me that the motor requires a minimum of 215 volts to operate. I then called Emerson where the compressor motor is made and they told me that they do not recommend running the motor on 208 volts, and that the motor is not capable of being rewired for 230 volts. Further research led me to hire a electrician to install a "buck and boost transformer" to raise my voltage from 208 volts to 230 volts. This was the solution I chose, rather than return the compressor and buy one that ran at 208 volts, because my research showed that the compressor would run more efficiently at 230 volts than at 208 volts. After all, if I couldn't achieve the maximum cfm that the compressor is capable of then why bother with a 2 stage compressor in the first place? The transformer cost $ 138.00 and the electrician another $ 180.00 for his expertise. When the installation was complete we threw the switch and the compressor ran perfectly with a moderate amount of noise and hardly any vibration (I bolted it to the concrete floor with neoprene pads under the feet). So far I have only used it for about two hours on one project, but from what I can see it works perfectly. It builds pressure up to 175 psi as listed, then sits idle until the pressure drops down to 125 psi. I have another project coming up within the next two months and will follow up this review at that time.UPDATE: I have now owned this compressor for about 18 months and I am happy to report that it has worked perfectly. The only con that I can see is that there is a very slight dripping of compressor oil that seems to be coming from the drain plug and dripping down the side of the air tank over time. I see this as an extremely minor issue because the level of compressor oil is still where I started when looking at the glass "bubble" on the side of the unit. I have not had to add any compressor oil to the unit. In hindsight, I should have removed the oil drain plug and wrapped it in teflon tape before filling the unit with compressor oil. I would definitely recommend this compressor.

No problems after a years worth of use.

I should say that the unit did have a bad pressure switch on arrival but CH got that rectified quickly. Since, the initial problem there haven't been any and it has worked as expected. I have it in my hobby shop and it easily keeps with anything and everything I do. I have heavy air consumption tools and it has no problem keeping up, it could handle 2-3 times what I do and still keep up LOL.This unit makes single stage, 60 gallon compressors sold at the BORG look and perform like toys. ;-)

5HP and 21 amps is not 7.5HP

Love the Compressors section advertisements.First this compressor is manufactured in Singapore. Should you need parts or anything else for the compressor head in the future this may be a concern.Advertised as a seven and a half, 7.5, Horsepower compressor. I was planning on replacing my 5HP compressor until I found the amp rating on the motor was the same as my 5HP compressor. Physics says you can't get more power from the unit than you take from the wall. This is a 5HP motor. I don't care what the placard says. Amazing this type of advertisement is even allowed. Poor consumer that doesn't know a thing about electricity. He is at the marketers mercy.

CHAMPION Stationary Electric-Powered Air Compressors prevent electrical and low oil problems while providing drier air. Two-stage units. Aircooled aftercooler removes up to 60% of moisture. Splash lubricated unit does not need an oil filter. Disc-type valve is built for long life and easy service. Isolator pads protect unit from unlevel floors and reduce vibration. Also include mounted magnetic starter, automatic tank drain, low oil level switch, multiple V-belt drive, and totally enclosed belt guard. 140–175 PSI. NEMA design motor. Comes filled with oil. UL-approved automatic start and stop control. ASME air receiver with fittings. 5-year limited warranty on pump. NOTE: Ordering a compressor with incorrect voltage may seriously effect compressor operation. Check the electrical panel where service enters the building to verify requirements. Compressor head is OK but the extra parts are of low quality

I bought one of these compressors a couple of months ago after doing carefull research and actually going to a repair facility here in AZ that handles warranty repairs for a variety of brands. Comparing quality versus price the Bostitch CW200ST was a winner.So I bought one to use with a Bostitch nail gun and stapler while restoring my parents house. I estimate that the compressor has about 15 (fifteen) hours of use by now. The oil pump reaches pressure rather quickly but the pressure regulator cuts the power at 120 PSI rather than 125 PSI as prescribed. The condensation drains are installed in a bad place and when open do not drain because they are too high on the tanks I estimate that it will have over a QUART of water inside each tank before any will reach the drains. You will have to tilt the compressor down and rock it side to side to get the water out, furthermore when tilted the lower drain hits the floor impedig drainage so you actually have to lift this rather heavy machine and tilt it and rockit at the same time in order to drain...A real pain!!! the handles are not in the right places and the unit does not balance well at all.Shortly after purchasing the unit one of the Quick Disconnects on the compressor will not seal itself after the hose is taken off and will merily leak all the air out in about one minute, I had to replace that so I could use the machine. It is rather cumbersome to unscrew the disconnects as they are too close to each other and the pressure Gauge. For about the last five hours of use I started to notice that if left pressurized overnight the air was gone in the morning upon closer inspection I could hear a faint hiss comming from somewhere behind the regulator It was not much just enough to leak and turn the machine on about every 15 minutes even if I did not use air. Yesterday the manual regulator prooved to be the culprit as when I started the compressor for the first time it would not hold air at all. The two halves that make the assembly where the manual knob is placed have came apart where they are threaded together. I took the disconnects off and loked at the problem. It looked like vibration had caused the two parts to came undone. I Screwed them back together and put some red thread locking liquid on them. I put everything back together and left it overnight to set. Today I power it on and it run up to the regular 120 PSI. I put my head next to it to listen for the noise of air escaping and sure enough there was a faint hisssss... While I was trying to figure out where the noise is caming from The back of the manual regulator popped loose again suddenly letting all the air escape in an instant startling me and prompting my wife to ask from the kitchen some ways away: "did you do that on purpose?" Well NO. The Zamak threads are soft and do not mesh.They are too loose and thin hence the problem. The machine is unusable untill I get a replacement hopefully of beter quality. Unfortunately I have to get the exact size and probably same model since it mounts on the front panel with a plastic threaded ring and space is rather limited and, it neds to have the same ports and orintation so it can take the various hoses and ports connecting to it... Overall the tech was right the actuall compressor is well done I believe he said it was Italian made the rest is rather sloppy and not thought out well. There is a small tag on the unit, it says: "Made in PRC" I don't think that is nowhere near USA

Poor Reliability

Had this unit 1 month and the motor locked up, took Bostitch repair center 3 weeks to fix, told me it was a common problem they were seeing with this unit. I wish I bought the Makita instead.***6 month update---broke again, this time I am getting it fixed and selling it...and buying the Makita...I have 4 Bostitch nailers and like them..VERY dissapointed in Bostitch on this one, Bostitch customer service has been no help.

Motor freezes up

The motor on my compressor consistently sticks, even when connected to a 20 amp wall circuit. I have taken the compressor in for service, but the problems persist. Generally, I like Bostitch tools, but they really missed the mark with this one.

Product works well now but the motor and controller were bad. It took some convincing to have tech support ship a new one, but they eventually did. A true hassle for a new startup business, but it works ok now.

Great compressor with plenty of CFM delivery

I bought one of these for my machine shop and it delivers more than enough CFM for sand blasting, DA sanders, etc. I've got mine connected to a dedicated 50A 220v breaker on my shop panel.
