Great price for just what I wanted.

I don't know if the reviewers who complained about the noise have ever used an air compressor before but this one is not that loud at all! Also, oilless compressors always take a little more time to pump up a full charge and are louder than oiled machines. And I don't know how one could expect a 2 gallon tank to provide any type of continuous airflow for cleaning, spraying etc. I am a professional woodworker and this lightweight little guy is so perfect for pick-up air nailing work or where a small trim job is needed and I don't want to lug around even a pancake unit. This is a fantastic machine for small nail jobs and inflating things so I don't know what others are expecting. Also, I bought mine brand new on sale from Ha**** Fr***** for $55.00! But even Amazon's price is well worth it. My only tiny complaint is that I wish the max pressure was 120 instead of 100.

Excellent compressor.

Bought this compressor to inflate tires on two autos and two bicycles. Works great. Included accessories are all I need. Plenty of pressure for auto tire inflation. Properly inflated eight auto tires (32PSI) in about five minutes. Very happy with my purchase. No longer have to pay for air at service stations.

What a piece of JUNK!

This thing broke down after only 3 months of less than daily use for a couple hours at a time airbrushing with a small artist style airbrush. Tiny tabletop compressors handle this job for years on end without breaking. Save your money and time and stay away from this piece of JUNK!

Hitachi quaility and plenty of air.

This machine is yet another good example of high quality Hitachi engineering. This compressor has outlasted several other brands. The machine has run two finishing guns continuously for almost a year and hasn't needed anything more than an oil change The regulator is predictable, and adjusts as easily as other brands. I firmly believe that Hitachi gets 4.1 CFM out of 14.5 amps. We simply do not run out of air no matter how fast we are working with the Senco SFN40's. Down time has been zilch. One thing we did add was a water/oil separator and filter to protect our work and our guns. I suppose Hitachi (and most other brands) leaves these off so that they will have a competitive price. But it does not make economical sense for YOU to leave them off.

While I have given this compressor a 5 star rating, there are some things for the engineers (and you!) to think about in the next model: 1. The way the regulator is mounted it is difficult to make a manifold for two hoses without hanging those pipes out there where they can get knocked off. Anyone who has knocked one off before will know that A) everyone in the neighborhood knows it right away and B) it puts you down for some expensive time. And C) when this happens, it often creates an unwanted projectile. It took me three street elbows and an hour of figuring to get the quick disconnects in a safe place. 2. When you pick the unit up with the handle, the unit tilts a bit. This means you have to hold it out away from your body a bit more than the size of the compressor would promise. All that horsepower weighs enough to make this more uncomfortable than need be. We just bent the handle with a torch to get on the center of gravity.

These are relatively small gigs on a really great compressor. I only spent so many words on them so that the engineers might just read this. It seems they will have plenty of time to correct this before the ones I own wear.

Good to go

The hitachi 2 horse protable compressor is light enough tocarry around the jobsite but heavy enough so it won't fall out theback of the truck. It delivers plenty of air for nailers air wrenchs and filling tires. I wouldn't use it for painting but it was about the same price as the Coleman compressors.

Hitachi's Dependable Compressor

I chose the Hitachi three years ago because it has a fine compressor and motor, solid construction, and overall good design. It has been entirely reliable and three years later I still am using it both in my cabinet shop and on the job for residential remodeling. The only significant design flaw is the position of the gauges. They are subject to being knocked off. I found this out the hard way one day when I had to slam on the brakes in my van and a sliding tool box sheared one of them off. Despite this one flaw I would still by another Hitachi in a heart beat. The Hitachi is not only reliable, but, unlike many compressors, it truly works on 15 amps. This compressor has never blown a fuse on me, which is something of a miracle considering the wiring in many of the older homes I remodel.

Product Description

The Industrial Air products are designed exclusively for the heavy duty needs of the mechanic shop, livestock operation and service truck. Featuring extra heavy duty components, these air compressors are built to last under the toughest, most demanding conditions. The cast iron, twin cyclinder, oil lubricated pump features; one-piece cast iron crankcase, thermally stable cast iron cylinder body, aluminum head ans valve plate, automotive style ball bearings, durable Swedish stainless steel reed valves, oil sight glass, easily accessible oil fill and a 12 inch cast iron balanced flywheel. Large capacity 60 gallon ASME air receiver provides more air for longer run times. Equipped with pressure gauge and on/off switch, and shipped complete with synthetic oil for optimum performance and long life. Rated at 155 PSI maximum pressure for optimum tool performance and unit is 240 volts. Working pressure is 145-175, 5.2 horsepower, 17.5 CFM at 100 PSI and 15.8 CFM at 175 PSI Single Phase electric, 240 volts.

Industrial Air IV5248069 80-Gallon Air compressor

I have puchased this commercial grade Air compressor for a 4 bay automotive repair shop. We have tested it in the shop and it is quite with out any vibrations running with 5.2 hp motor, 2-stage, Cast Iron tank, single phase 230v. Now we have installed it outside the shop and we can barely here it. I do like the output control knobs on the compressor, where we have turned it down to 150 psi (it can go up to 175 psi)and we have not yet seen a need to increase the output psi.The dual output also helps, where we can run a quick connect for some out side the bay work. With couple of air tools running, the compressor hardly kicks in for just couple of minutes - I guess the 80 Gallon tank is helping too.We had some tough bolts on a honda and infinity and ball joints and had to run 3/4 inch tools for a while and the compressor kicked in only for a couple minutes couple of times.I like the output psi adjustment knob, large Dials neatly in their place. I have only used it for a month now and works like a charm. Amazon had the best price, including free delivery, however did not have a lot of details. good performer, but

I agree with the wheel gripes. The wheels are injection molded with a very thin plastic, one of mine had a slash in it and collapsed on first use.So, I went up to farm and fleet and bought two new wheels with steel center and solid rubber, heavy tread, put them on and it is perfectly mobile over any terrain, now.I also agree Makita fudges on the specs.Most important though is the performance in use, and there, it shines. I've used similar double tank units from other manufacturers and much prefer the design of this unit. It stores connectors and a hose, handle breaks down for storage/transport, It is made very well and is quiet for a unit this size.It does draw power on the initial kick on, as they all do. I'd hoped to run this on my Yamaha 2500 watt generator, which is equivelant to a 20 amp circuit, but no go. It blows the breaker everytime. And the Yamaha runs a portable DeWalt table saw, jet 1200cfm dust collector and a chop saw just fine (not all at the same time!)So, while it is not perfect, it is a good performer and I'm very satisfied with the comressor at the cost.

Item is not 1720 RPM as described

Amazon's description describes this as running at 1720 RPM which is equal to Makita's MAC2400 product which runs at half this one's speed (and is quieter as a result).NOTE THIS ITEM RUNS AT 3420 RPM AND HAS A SLIGHTLY LARGER BORE THAN THE MAC2400 - SO EXPECT IT TO BE SIGNIFICANTLY LOUDER.

Makita Products & ESP. Service Down the Tubes

I purchased this tool in June, 2008. It arrived from Amazon in perfect condition. After the initial 'break-in' period I used it a few times for minor chores around the shop. No problems. The problems began when I took it outside. For a machine this heavy it has lousy plastic wheels which not only bent out of shape, the axle they ride on also bent. I am not abusive with my tools and take reasonable care when handling them. Also, one of the plastic gauge covers cracked. In addition, the plastic shroud that goes over the compressor rattles like crazy and probably makes twice as much noise as this machine needs to make. Simply an observation of mine of poor design. But the real problem was the way in which Makita service treats you when you need help. The parts to replace were simple to swap out, and relatively inexpensive. The service rep I spoke with wanted me to drive this compressor 60 miles each way to have an authorized service center look at them to determine whether they "really failed" or not. In the past if I had a problem with heavy equipment that was easily repaired at my end the parts would be shipped free of charge, assuming the item was under warranty (it is). The rep further argued with me that the wheels simply "wore out" from usage. I explained to him I hadn't used this tool for more than a total of 20 hours and that that was an unreasonable assumption regarding the wheels. His next argument was that "Makita only warrants the motor on these tools and the rest is up to me - at my expense, to have repaired." Unbelievable. The warranty clearly states the entire tool is warranted for one year. Makita's have always made good tools in the past, but I would strongly recommend you look elsewhere if considering this tool, or any other from Makita. Their service center is abysmal. I can understand them not having the sharpest tacks handling the phone calls. But at least know your products and their respective warranties. No more Makita tools in this shop. This was a poor choice on my part.

Poor quality, worse Customer Service...Thank godness for Amazon

Ironically, shortly before I purchased this item I told myself I would start leaving feedback on services and items I utilized. I figured it was only fair as I usually do tons of research on things before I spend my money and use customer reviews whenever possible. With that in mind, here is what I think of Wagan and their Power Dome EX...We were driving cross country and were looking for an inverter/compressor/jumpstarter to carry for emergencies. Like most people we didn't need all the extra bells and whistles but they seemed like nice bonuses that were essentially free for the price. I read the reviews and, as you will see or have seen, they are are all over the place from 'love it' to 'junk.' I know even in the best product there is always a few ranting, cursing, grammar-slaughtering diatribes from someone who feels they were wronged but usually you can pick those ones out and disregard them. This item though almost seems like their quality really does run the entire spectrum. I can only speak for myself but I have to lean strongly towards 'Junk.' Like some other reviewers noted, right out of the box parts fell out and the item seemed poorly assembled. The casing did not line up and some of the trim pieces were partially falling off. Not a huge deal to me as it was going to bounce around in the back of the car or sit in the garage but not a great first impression nonetheless. Following the instructions I charged the unit for 48 hours before using which meant I couldn't test until it was about time to hit the road in two days. No issues during charging and after I removed it I did a cursory check off all the items. Everything seemed to function properly, compressor hummed, light and radio came on, inverter fan came on, etc. The problem came when we moved to to the back of the car and plugged in my son's Nintendo DS charger to the AC outlet. We turned on the inverter and the fan came on but DS wasn't showing a charge. Tried another item, a small fish tank bubbler we were bringing (yes, we moved with fish) and that didn't run either. Shortly after unplugging that we noticed smoke starting to blow out of the vents from the inverter fan on the unit and filling up the car. I removed the unit and shut it off stopping the smoke. The smoke was clearly electrical in nature (I've been a firefighter for 15 years so please don't waste time in your review second guessing my assessment) but the fans had continued to work and the unit was not particularily hot to the touch. Not a great start to the trip as we now had no power for the fish bubbler and the car smelled like burnt wires (not to mention I was pissed I had a $100 paperweight) but what do you do? As our beloingings were already packed in the moving truck, and I was afraid if I put the unit in with them it would burn it down, I had no choice but to let the unit cool down for a while as the car aired out and then then threw it in the back of our car to keep an eye on and deal with when we reached CA.about a week later when I got around to dealing with it I went on Amazon to return I found out that, because of the battery, it could not be returned. I figured that I would call Wagan directly and that they would take care of it. After being on hold for quite a while, I finally spoke to a young man that seemed thoroughly disinterested in helping me. It sounded to me as if he fielded a fair amount of complaint calls as he seemed less than surprised I was calling and never even asked what happened before telling me I could return the item to them (at my cost) and they would send me a replacement. I told him that #1, I had already paid shipping once and wasn't going to pay it again to return their faulty merchandise, and #2, I didn't want a replacement as I didn't trust the quality. He told me they didn't do refunds and I would have to talk to Amazon. I asked to speak to a Supervisor and he told me that none were available but he would take my number and I would be contacted (It's been almost a month and nothing yet but in fairness he never said when they would call back so maybe one of these days but I'm not holding my breath...).Already wound up I called Amazon ready for a fight. Dealing with Amazon as much as I had in the past I should have known better. I spoke to 'Phil' who listened to my problem, asked me to hold for a moment, and came back and informed me that while it is true Amazon cannot accept returns on the item they would refund my account for the full cost without the item and asked only that I find a 'responsible' way to dispose of or recycle the unit. Like I said, I should have known Amazon would stand behind something they sold. It's too bad they can't vett all their vendors to find ones that have the same approach but that's probably not possible.So, in closing, here is my final scorecard. The Wagan Powerdome 400 I received was faulty and, most likely, a serious fire hazard. Apparently this is not true of all of them but I can only speak for myself. Quality and customer service of agan is very poor in my experience although it appears, at minimum, the compressor, light, and radio still work. The inverter turns on and does not smoke but also does not provide power nor does the DC or USB port. I also have not had opportunity to test the jumpstarter feature but would probably be hesitant Again, please don't waste your time telling me I had the wrong switch on, followed the wrong procedure, etc, as I read the manual up and down and tried every combination to get the unit to work). So buyer beware is the moral of my story. It appears this unit is something of a crapshoot based on the reviews and it can be a dangerous piece of equipment to malfunctio so do your research and good luck. On the bright side it appears you will always have Amazon's superior Customer Service to fall back on.

It Does the Trick!

I have owned this a few weeks and have had to use it for 5 jumps and inflated 4 tires without it even going down below 13 volts Its great to have, you don't have to drag out those long cables and use another car to get a jump, and it started it right up. It will come in handy for storms also-- I love It..UPDATE!!STILL GOING STRONG!!!I have been using this for two and a half years now to jump cars and even for lights during power outages and it still works great..Im sorry some had had trouble..but mine is great ..I did have to tape on some decals that were falling off..but other than that it is still working..Im glad I have it..

Everything I need

This is a fantastic unit and the price is on par with other brand units.Pros:It has a charge indicator, FM/AM radio with aux. audio input jack as well as a USB power supply port for those suckers who own an IPOD, the LED light is bright enough, the presence of an air compressor is a plus and the hose is a decent length but doesn't appear so at first glance, 2 AC outlets as well as 1 DC outlet should provide ample space to plug in anything, and of course the jump cables for car starting which, like the air hose, is longer than it appears in the picture (about 2.5 feet)The reason I gave it only 4 stars:the power switch for the AC outlets on mine is a 2 stage switch, meaning it has off, 1, and 2 settings. The 1 does nothing and the 2 powers the outlets. Based upon the pictures, it is clear that a simple ON/OFF switch was meant to be there and probably is in most units but for whatever reason, mine has a different one (no biggie). The air compressor works fine but I have a problem with the fact the dial goes to 260psi. Who is pumping that much air into something? Because of that, I need to look closely when I am filling tires because the distance from 0-35/40 is very small. The tips for the air hose come loose so they will get tossed or lost easily. Lastly, the speaker for the radio is not the greatest, it would have been nice to have a built-in amp and an audio out but i guess this thing can only do so much.Overall, it is a great buy and should do the job well for most people.

Good Worker - one caution

I like this compressor; quiet, fast, efficient, solidly built. Good features: heavy duty wheel kit, dual connections, good gauges & controls. However, be aware that the drain is not set to drain water completely from the tank in either the vertical or horizontal positions. It needs to propped up at about 45 degrees to get all the condensation out. This is a critical design flaw as residual water in the tank is a big cause of tank failure. Buy the compressor but be sure you drain it well and often.

Wheels are a very good thing . . .

After my last cheapo compressor died in a horrible texturing accident (after five years of faithful service, may it rest in peace at the landfill), I felt like it was time for the real deal. Things that drove me to pick this model in particular:- Wheels, beautiful wheels -- last one was a dual tank 70 pound behemoth. This compressor is heavier, but those wheels make life so much easier. Granted, I could've used a hand-truck before, but having it all integrated as a single unit is a huge bonus. Not looking forward to the first time I get to heave it into the truck, but for now, it gets around the shop just fine. The handle extends easily and quickly for smooth portability.- 200 PSI, will I ever use it? Well, um, not likely. However, the more important numbers: 5.4 CFM at 90 PSI is pretty great. Opens up alot of options in terms of running a variety of air tools. While I probably won't ever run more than two framing nailers at a time, this compressor should have no trouble with any other air tools I could conceivably use.- Low noise. At least, lower noise. Air compressors are noisy beasts, no doubt. This one is pretty tolerable in comparison. Fair warning, the 15 minute, no load warmup period is the noisiest this compressor will be. Once the warmup is over and you close the drain to start building air pressure, the RPM cycles down (almost sounds like it's laboring at first, but it chugs away all the way up to an honest 200 PSI). The normal cycle on is at about 160 PSI, and it runs at around 1750 RPM. It's pretty calm sounding, again, as compressors go. No accompanying vibration.- Price. It's not cheap, but this compressor compares very favorably to others at this price point in terms of features and technical details.So far I've only used the compressor for finish and brad nailing. The Dewalt has proven way overqualified for that job. No problems at all to this point. If issues develop in the future, I'll edit the review.Only gripe thus far: One of the wheels was flat when I opened the box. The tubes are replaceable 410/350 x 4 utility tubes. I just did some creative flat repair. Luckily I had a reliable source of air to pump the tire back up! Take note, if you have a tire that goes flat while the unit is stored upright, it will fall over . . . so keep an eye on the tire pressure.Happy, erm, inflating.

200 psi...I Like it!

The thing I like best about this compressor, is the fact that I will never lose pressure to my nail guns before the motor kicks on again. With my old compressor I had 125 psi after the motor kicked off, but after a dozen or so shots with my framing nailer, the pressure would drop to around 90 psi, and the motor wouldn't kick on until about 85 psi, so sometimes the nails wouldn't shoot all the way into the wood. With this compressor, the motor kicks in when the pressure drops to about 160 psi, and since it pressurizes to 200 psi, I get a consistent pressure through my hose, guaranteed. (I run the regulator at 110 psi for framing nailers.) Also, since the tank pressurizes to 200 psi you get a larger volume of air stored in the tank than other compressors with the same size tank. I also like the look, the wheels, the relatively quiet operation, 2 air outlets, the extendable handle, and the ball valve drain.
